Judge Travis Ransom issued a disaster declaration in response to the damage caused by Wednesday and Thursday’s storms. A letter from Ransom’s office was also sent to the Governor’s office informing the Texas Governor of the devastation caused by last week’s storms. On June 16, the Governor wrote a proclamation on Friday, June 16, 2023, certifying the severe weather and tornadoes that began on June 14, 2023. Those impacted by the storm are encouraged to fill out the iSTAT form.
The Texas Historical Commission (THC) awarded a 2022 Distinguished Service Award (DSA) to the Cass County Historical Commission (CHC).
Linden held a ceremony for Juneteenth on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at noon. It began with the invocation by Evelyn Richardson, with remarks by Marvin Kelly, the chairman of the Cass County Historical Commission. Also included was an Underground Railroad Performance by the Pleasant Hill Quilters with closing remarks by Linden Mayor Lynn Reynolds.
The Cass County Genealogical Society is holding a Free Genealogy Workshop (Genealogy 101), open to the public, on Saturday, June 24th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the second floor of the Atlanta Public Library.
