Wooden Car number two is underway out on the Wayne Mathews’ property in the Leek Creek area. Mathews is the artist who enjoys changing things.
Returning to celebrate their history and the unveiling of the historical marker designating their cemetery were these members of the Leek Creek Community.This was April of 2023.The cemetery was established in1896.
Do you see how Wayne Mathews’ workshop looks like a car over there on the right side? Who knows what this building will ultimately look like. It’s all in the mind of Mathews.
The St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church built in the early 1900s in the Leek Creek Community area. The educational building serves many community functions.
The St. Paul Baptist Church cemetery received its Texas historical designation in 2021. This marker was unveiled in 2023.
Cary (K.R.) Roquemore was known and respected affectionately as “Uncle Duck.” His headstone is appropriately inscribed by community artist Wayne Mathews.

Wayne Mathews is building his second wooden car out in his family property on the Bivins No. 2 postal route and the Leek Creek Community. The area is quite rural. It’s out between Bivins and Huffines along County Road 4344. A lot of history and family homes are here but no longer cotton fields and farms.

Regional water planners have reached a mediated agreement on the future of the proposed Marvin Nichols Reservoir in the Sulphur River Basin The agreement is much awaited positive news for Northeast Texas landowners that have long fought the progress of the projected $7 billion project that would force local landowners to abandon generational farms and ranches.

These are the stairs older patrons and those with disabilities have trouble getting up and down at the library in downtown Atlanta. The elevator has been out for three months but the library and the city are looking for ways to get it replaced this year.

As we all know, if you have been to the Atlanta Public Library, the elevator has been out of order for the past three months.
