Linden Garden Club makes great plans

While everyone else was going “Back to School”, the Linden Garden Club Members met for their “Back to Garden Club” first meeting of the new Club Year on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at the Garden Club building at 300 W. Houston Street in Linden.

While visiting with each other during the “Friendship” time prior to the meeting, the Members enjoyed delicious treats served up by Hostesses Laura Penny, Shirley Baker and Dorothy Lintz.

New Club President, Patricia Nichols, led the group in a lively meeting, with discussions regarding plans for the new Club Year.

Ideas flourished were, plan events in conjunction with Texas Garden Clubs, Inc.’s theme of “Exploring Wildflowers”; plan group field trips to visit events such as a butterfly exhibition in September and hold a club meeting at a site such as a nursery or Bed & Breakfast; attend the Texas Garden Clubs, Inc. District III Fall Board Meeting in Texarkana; support projects to help beautify and support our Community such as resuming the “Yard of the Month” recognition program; supporting the Smokey Bear Fire Prevention Poster contest at the Linden Elementary School; celebrating Texas Arbor Day by planting a tree at the city park; participating in Trunk or Treat around the Courthouse Square or holding a Halloween-themed contest or event; serving hot cocoa and cookies at the Christ- mas Tree Lighting Ceremony on the Courthouse lawn; cleaning flowerbeds at the Linden Police Station and working to keep our Club House grounds beautiful; participating in Wildflower Trails events, including presentation of our popular Flower Show in April; supporting National Garden Week in June and supporting the club by holding our annual Chili Luncheon, Garden Wagon Raffle, and semi-annual Garage Sales.

This year, the Linden Garden Club will celebrate its 90th Anniversary of being a part of the Linden community. The Club plans to hold an Open House and invite the entire community as well as special guests and dignitaries from Cass County and the State of Texas.
