On Sunday, January 9, 2022, at approximately 12:10 p.m. the Miller County Sheriff ’s Office was contacted by a Miller County resident who had pulled up to the boat ramp at Mercer Bayou off of Miller County Road 151. At that time, the witness reported finding two bodies lying near the ramp. Miller County Patrol
On Wednesday, January 19, 2022, a Cass County jury sentenced Damien O’Keith Lawson, Sr., 26 years of age, to 99 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice – Institutional Division for the felony offense of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child. Lawson had previously pleaded guilty to the charge on January 12, 2022, before Fifth District Judge Bill Miller, and was found guilty. Lawson requested that a jury assess his punishment. The State was represented by Cass County Criminal District Attorney Courtney Shelton and First Assistant District Attorney Nick Ross. The defendant was represented by Gary Albertson.
Queen City High School’s cheerleaders earned a bronze medal at last week’s UIL State Spirit Competition in Ft. Worth. This was the cheer program’s first finals appearance and state medal.
Tyler Morton was hired last week to be the new Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Atlanta ISD. Morton was the Defensive Coordinator at Arkansas High School in Texarkana, Ark., before being hired by Atlanta.
