Snowpocalypse ‘21 hits Cass County

Sometime before midnight on Valentine’s Day, the community was surprised to see a quick accumulation of snow throughout Cass County. The surprise turned to anxiety when the snow continued to fall. People who got out in the unusual weather began to see items like bread and milk fly off the shelves. Cars around the area began to be stranded or towed after they became stuck in the snow. By the time the storm had ended many of our area stores closed down, and the grocery stores shelves were almost bare, with items like milk and water being completely gone.

Bigger in Texas of course!

A winter storm left all of Texas covered in snow, with Cass County seeing upwards of 16 inches, according to area residents. Four friends – Danielle Smith, Stephanie Garrett, Candace Nuckels and Matt Hinton – took advantage of this rare occurance and spent six hours building a truly Texas-sized giant snow cowboy. Standing at 10 foot tall, the four had the help of a Kubota and several stepladders to place the higher tiers. Montana, the dog, “helped”. Courtesy Photos

Emergency water advisory

David Cockrell, City Manager of Atlanta, has sent out a number of press releases over the last three days alerting the community of a boil advisory. In the early hours of Feb. 19 the water system went down. For some, the water came back on later that day. The city has been trying to resolve it since then, with area residents saying “as of the 20th they had been without water for about five days”, though it is unclear if their water was managed by the city or not. On Feb. 21 the water was again off but came back online quickly.
