Mayoral Update

I know that there has been some concern amongst the citizens regarding the sales tax reallocation everyone voted on about a year ago. It passed, and that money went into the General Fund, per law, as it was not budgeted for and kicked in mid-budget year. However, it is accounted for in our recent budget which just started. When I was elected into office, the street budget was $25,000 per year. It is no wonder nothing got done. When I would bring this up, I was met with “We don’t have the money” or… “We will never be able to afford that”. I pointed out an avenue by which some funds could be reallocated and here we are, a street budget for this budget year over $200,000. We all know this is a drop in the bucket, and it is never- ending; however, that’s the nature of the beast. I do think we are on a better trajectory than we were before and am looking forward to seeing this money put to work around our town and neighborhoods.

Officer uses pepper spray on student

In a press release sent out on December 18 from Queen City ISD, it was reported that “on December 9, 2024, former employee David Gaskin allegedly used pepper spray on a student in violation of: (1) his training as a peace officer; (2) multiple school board policies; and (3) Texas law. Interim Superintendent of Schools, Shannon Henderson, suspended Mr. Gaskin’s employment and notified law enforcement. “

Measuring Typical Whitetail Antlers

Note: All measurements must be made with a 1/4inch wide flexible steel tape to the nearest one-eighth of an inch. A flexible steel cable can be used to measure points and main beams only. Enter fractional figures in eighths, without reduction. Official measurements cannot be taken until the antlers have air dried at a habitable room temperature for at least 60 days after the animal was killed. The 60-day drying period for a trophy that has been frozen or boiled begins the day it is removed from the freezer, boiling pot, or submersion in any liquid.
