Officer uses pepper spray on student

In a press release sent out on December 18 from Queen City ISD, it was reported that “on December 9, 2024, former employee David Gaskin allegedly used pepper spray on a student in violation of: (1) his training as a peace officer; (2) multiple school board policies; and (3) Texas law. Interim Superintendent of Schools, Shannon Henderson, suspended Mr. Gaskin’s employment and notified law enforcement. “

However, Gaskin quit before the Queen City ISD was legally permitted to terminate his employment.

“Mr. Gaskin passed a Federal Bureau of Investigation criminal background check prior to his employment at Queen City ISD on 2018/10/17,” it was noted in the release.

“Superintendent Henderson commented, “As a public school district, the safety and well-being of our students are always among our highest priorities. We appreciate the Cass County District Attorney’s Office for immediately investigating this matter given the nature and severity of the alleged misconduct.”

It was also noted in the release, that “confidentiality laws prohibit Queen City ISD from commenting further or releasing any information about this incident. Queen City ISD assures all parents and students that the district holds all employees to the highest standards of legal, moral, and ethical conduct as role models in the community.”

The Journal-Sun will be following the story and will reach out to the District Attorney’s office and Cass County Sheriff ’s Department for more information.
