CASA in need of advocates

The Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children is looking for volunteers to become supporters for the current 22 children in foster care within Cass County. The announcement was posted on the Linden Police Department’s Facebook page on Monday, Apr. 7. The same day, the Texarkana Children Advocacy Center (TCAC), an umbrella program of CASA, met with residents in front of the Cass County Courthouse for a proclamation to raise awareness of and prevent child abuse.

A new study commissioned by the Texas Conservation Alliance shines a glaring light on potential flaws in the state’s water planning process as a whole. The report exposes some of the challenges of continuing to rely heavily on reservoirs to meet our state’s water needs. It details planned reservoirs, explores the challenges of accurately measuring how much water planned reservoirs will provide, and spotlights conflicts of interest present in the water planning process.

Judge Ransom filed a state of disaster for Cass County with the County Clerk on Sunday, Apr. 6 after assessing the damage left by the weekend storms. It was determined that “extraordinary measures must be taken to alleviate the suffering of people, protect or rehabilitate property, and to clear our roads or repair our infrastructure.”
