Here’s a building in Linden that looks as if it once were a friendly place to visit. It had wide doors and a friendly name above the largest one. This was Halls Machine Shop, and once upon a time in its earlier days it housed Linden’s ice making plant. Chester Boney was the owner at 301 West Rush Street. Photo by Neil Abeles

John Smith is a silversmith of sparkling objects. He’s a frequent participant in Atlanta’s Local Makers Market which is happening this Saturday from 9 to 2 p.m. He seeks out silver and then turns the metal into artistic creations. Here he is holding some of his latest large objects made from cutlery. Atlanta’s local market is a five-hour display of creative endeavors by enthusiastic local artists. The concept is that participants are limited to being from 50 miles or less from Atlanta and crafts are “handmade, homemade and home grown.” Photo by Neil Abeles
