Earlier this year I had the opportunity to step outside of my comfort zone. I participated in a “Prison Reentry Simulation” which replicates the challenges and struggles faced by thousands of individuals transitioning from incarceration back into society.
Longtime news reporter Neil Abeles will be returning to the Journal after about 30 years. Abeles has been covering Cass County news for the Texarkana Gazette but has recently decided to come back to the newspaper he got started with. Abeles has been a gentle voice in the community that blends in to capture this community’s special moments.
On August 4, the Deputy Secretary of State Joe Esparza drew the ballot order for the 14 proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution. Texans will vote on these amendments as a part of the November 7 Election. Below is the ballot order as drawn.
Samuel Sudder Morris was born in Henry County, Ga. 29 Sept. 1826, the son of Alonzo Peoples and Elizabeth Kuglar Morris. On 1 Oct. 1846 he married Mary Ann Elizabeth James, daughter of David and Sarah Sanders James, a large planter in Henry County, Ga. , where Mary Ann was born on 4 March 1829. Mr. £ Mrs. Morris lived in Stockbridge, Ga. for two years after their marriage, but then decided to move to Texas and accompanied by 15 other families, they made the trip by horse and wagon.
