Tigers topple Pirates, 36-16, in district play
The Linden-Kildare Tigers traveled to James Bowie last Friday night to take on the Pirates.
The Tigers would topple the Pirates 34- 16 to bring their district record to 1- 2 for the season with only two games left to play.
Linden- Kildare started the night on defense after James Bowie won the coin toss and elected to receive.
The Pirates opening drive would start well but they would end up punting the ball.
The Tigers opening drive started off great with a pass to senior Ja’Kevian Rose for 20 yards.
On the next play sophomore LaDavian Johnson would carry the ball to the end zone for a 61-yard Tiger touchdown.
The PAT was no good, but L-K was up 6-0 with 6:54 left to play in the first.
The Pirates would end up with another three-and-out and have to punt for the second time. L-K would also turn the ball back over after an unsuccessful fourth down.
The Pirates would keep possession of the ball to end the first.
The Pirates drive ended abruptly after an interception by Rose was returned 90 yards for a TD.
The PAT was no good, but L-K boosted its score to 12-0 with 11:01 to play in the second quarter.
The Pirates would keep the ball on the ground to take up much of the second quarter but they would eventually turn the ball back over to the Tigers with just a couple of minutes left.
The time ran out on the Tigers, but they took a 12-point lead into the break.
L-K would receive the ball to start the second half but would fumble the ball away making it first -and-10 for the Pirates.
The Tigers’ defense would come out and stop the Pirates on a fourth down.
On the Tigers’ next drive, Rose carried the ball 39 yards, and two snaps later Rose bolted into the endzone from four yards out.
The two point conversion was successful bringing the Tigers lead to 20- 0 with 5:49 left in the third.
James Bowie would keep possession to end the third quarter.
The Pirates opened the fourth quarter with a touchdown.
The two point conversion was successful bringing the score to 20-8 with 8:52 left to play in the game.
L-K senior quarterback Marty Johnson would complete passes to junior Ty Patterson and senior Traccer Henry to move the ball down the field for L-K.
LaDavian Johnson carried the ball three times for 25 yards to get the Tigers into the red zone.
Marty Johnson would connect with Rose after that for a 13-yard touchdown.
The PAT was good and L-K was up 27-8 with 5:46 left to play.
The Tigers’ defense would make the Pirates fumble on their next drive which was recovered by sophomore Nic Kunze for a 3-yard return.
After a quarterback keeper by junior Jacob Owen for 12 yards, the Tigers scored a final time after a breakout run by LaDavian Johnson for 41 yards.
James Bowie would score one more time with under a minute to play, but the game ended with L-K on top 34-16.
The Tigers would end the night with 14 first downs, 240 total rushing yards, and 341 total yards on offense.
L-K would go 6-of-11 for 101 total passing yards.
L-K will play this Friday night against Wolfe City at the friendly confines of Jack Hetheringtion-Tiger stadium at 7:30 p.m.
