Tigers lose close, 26-21, contest to Rebels

The Linden- Kildare Tigers hosted the Rivercrest Rebels this past Friday night in Tigerland. 
The Tigers gave their best performance so far this season but fell short by a score of, 26-21.

First Quarter

The Tigers would start the line on defense after winning the coin toss and deferring to the second half. The Tigers’ defense came out strong and held Rivercrest to a three-and-out. 
The Tigers’ offense would take the field and would have to give it back also after a three-and-out. 
The Rebels scored on their next drive with 6:51 left to play in the first. The PAT was no good but Rivercrest was up, 6-0.
After the kick the Tigers wasted no time with a breakout run by senior Ja’Kevian Rose for a 45-yard Tiger touchdown. 
The PAT was no good and the score was tied at 6-all with 5:34 left to go in the first quarter. 
Both teams battled strong to end the first quarter.

Second Quarter

L-K punted the ball away to start the second. The Tigers’ defense would stop Rivercrest after an interception by junior Ty Patterson for a 2-yard return. 
On the very next play sophomore LaDavian Johnson carried the ball to the end zone for a 30-yard touchdown.
The 2-point conversion was good and L-K was up, 14-6, with 9:01 left in the second quarter.
Sophomore Nate Holloway would cause the Rebels to fumble the ball on the next drive, and Patterson would recover the ball for the Tigers. 
After both teams punted the ball back-and-forth, L-K scored again on a stunning run by LaDavian Johnson for 92 yards with only 4:13 left to play on the half. 
The PAT kick was good and L-K was up, 21-6. Both teams would shut down each other to end the half.

Third Quarter

The Tigers would receive the ball to start the second half. Their first drive would start with a 27 yard run by LaDavian Johnson. Senior Marty Johnson would take the ball up the field for 10 more yards on a quarter back keeper for another Tiger first down. 
Linden- Kildare would then turn the ball over after an unsuccessful fourth down. 
The Rebels kept the ball on the ground with multiple runs and scored with 5:33 left in the third. 
The 2-point conversion was good and the Rebels pulled within seven points at, 21-14.
The Rebels scored one more time before the end of the third quarter. The PAT was no good but the score was close at, 21-20, in favor of L-K.

Fourth Quarter

The Tigers had possession of the pigskin to start the final quarter. After a couple of incomplete passes the Tigers would have to punt.
Rivercrest struggled for a bit but managed to get to the end zone with only 4:15 left to play in the game.
After another unsuccessful PAT the Rebels were up, 26-21.
The Tigers clawed down the field on their final drive with a couple of run plays and a pass by Marty Johnson to Ty Patterson for 23 yards. The Tigers ended up turning the ball over to end the night as Rivercrest left town with a, 26-21, win. 
The Tigers had 12 first downs with 234 yards of total offense. The Tigers went 3-for-10 for a total of 46 passing yards. 
L-K will travel to James Bowie to take on the Pirates this Friday night at 7:30 p.m. Come out and support your Tigers. Don’t forget to wear your blue and white.

JV

Last Thursday the JV Tigers traveled to Rivercrest and lost, 46-8. Mason Johnson connected with Kenny Feringa on a couple of passes. Kayden Graves ran for a touchdown late in the game and Mason Johnson threw a pass to Tawin Patterson on a two point conversion. Karson Bynum and Eric Fowler played well defensively. This Thursday JV will play at home against White Oak.
