Rabbs, Lady Rabbs compete at Regionals
The Atlanta track program competed in the UIL Region 2, 4A Track Championship this past weekend in Commerce.
Both squads placed third overall in their respective divisions.
Running prelims and some field events took place Apr. 27.
Alyssa Simmons placed third overall in the long jump with a mark of 18 feet, 3 1/2 inches.
Running finals and some field events took place the next day Apr. 28.
Quiniya Cook placed 10th in shot put with a heave of 33 feet, 9 3/4 inches, and Jacorian Fields placed 10th in both the high jump at 6 feet even and the triple jump at 42 feet, 11 inches.
In the prelim running events Dagen Ward placed 11th at 10:30.33 and Josiah Henderson placed 14th at 10:51.98 in the 3200m run.
In the 110m hurdles Josh Edwards placed second in his heat at 14.57, and in the 300m hurdles Sheveonia Smith placed first overall at 46.19 for the ladies and Edwards and Jaquavius Allen placed 1-2 in their heat with times of 38.79 and 40.17 respectively for the guys
In the 100m dash Alyssa Simmons placed third at 12.34 and Reggie Blaylock placed fifth at 11.20.
In the 400m dash Hunter Belk and Luke Anthony placed 5-6 in their heat with times of 51.24 and 51.25, and in the 200m dash Chelsea Simmons placed fourth at 25.64.
The ladies’ 4x100m relay team of Chelsea Simmons, Alyssa Simmons, Jazmine Moore and Keyona Easter placed first at 47.16, and the boys’ team of Blaylock, Austin Brown, Jawan King and Desmond Webster placed third at 41.94.
The ladies’ 4x200m relay team of Chelsea Simmons, Alyssa Simmons, Smith and Keyona Easter placed first at 1:41.07, but the boys’ team was disqualified for a zone violation.
The boys’ 4x400m relay team of Brown, Anthony, Webster and Edwards placed third at 3:23.82, and the ladies’ team of Moore, Richonda Harris, Jennifer Easter and Keyona Easter placed fifth at 4:09.48.
After a grueling prelim battle the Rabbits and Lady Rabbits prepared for finals.
In the finals of the 100m hurdles Edwards placed first at 14.65, and in the 300m hurdles Edwards placed second at 38.81, Allen was seventh at 41.71 and Smith placed second at 45.73 for the ladies.
In the 100m dash Alyssa Simmons placed fourth at 12.66 and Reggie Blaylock placed eighth at 11.37, in the 1600m run Dagen Ward placed third at 4:31.36 and in the 200m dash Chelsea Simmons placed sixth at 25.86.
In the 800m run Hannah Wicks placed ninth at 2:29.49 and Dani Arredondo 13th at 2:33.52 for the ladies and Cade Rosser placed 10th at 2:02.70 and Cameron Carney 15th at 2:07.57 for the guys.
The 4x100m relay girls’ team placed second overall at 46.96 and the boys placed fourth at 42.18; the 4x200m relay girls’ team placed second overall at 1:40.19 and the boys’ 4x400m relay team placed third at 3:18.58.
