Detroit held a, 20-16, lead after one quarter of play but a, 20-7, run by the Longhorns put McLeod up at the break, 36-27.
McLeod outscored Detroit, 38-34, in the second half to seal the 13-point victory.
Zach Prince scored 19 points, Blake Williams added 17, Casey Smith 15 and Dagan Keener 10.
Dec. 20 the Longhorns played Union Grove at the American Airlines Center in Dallas before taking in a Mavericks game.
Both teams finished the first quarter with 14 points but an, 18-5, run by McLeod put the ’Horns up, 32-19, at halftime.
A, 24-21, run by McLeod (17-4) gave the Longhorns a, 56-40, win over Union Grove.
Zach Prince had a game-high 29 points, Trevor Deel added 11 and Casey Smith poured in six.
The junior varsity team fell, 67-56, to Detroit although the Longhorns received great scoring from Kobe Bonner – 20 points, Austin Gilmore – 14 points and Nos Gryder – 13 points.
McLeod’s Lady Longhorns topped Detroit, 65-31, with Jilian Ellis scoring 16 points, Shelby Davis adding 14 and Jillian Parker eight.
Dec. 19, Queen City’s Lady Bulldogs battled Paul Pewitt in district play. The Lady Brahmas played QC tough in the first half as the Lady Bulldogs only had a slight 26-25 lead at the break.
A 25-17 run in the second half secured a 51-42 win for QC.
Queen City is 3-0 in district and 17-0 in two seasons so far dating back to last year’s historic 14-0 finish.
Dec. 28, the Lady Bulldogs hosted and beat Avinger, 49-16, behind a strong shooting performance by Jessica Jones who had 23 points.
Madison Jones added seven points, CeCe Walker six and Ali Chischilly five.
Queen City (14-2, 3-0) led, 28-6, at halftime and outscored the Lady Indians, 21-10, down the stretch.
The Lady Bulldogs host New Boston Tuesday, Jan. 2.
The M.U.M.S. Lady Bulldog squads hosted DeKalb Dec. 18.
Both seventh grade teams fell to the Lady Bears. Landri Beckham – seven points and Jalaysha Johnson – four points led the A team in scoring and Leah Self was the leading scorer for the B team.
The eighth grade A team fell to DeKalb as well with Chyna Stiger, Halle Worthington and Nyla Harrison scoring for the Lady Bulldogs.
The eighth grade B team topped DeKalb, 16-2, behind an 8-point barrage from McKenzie Martin, six points from Jade Whitehorn and two from Madeline Clayton.
