BUSTER LEE
April 14, 1926 - Aug. 24, 2017
Buster Lee, 91, of Queen City, went to be with the Lord Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017, in a Texarkana hospice.
He was born April 14, 1926, in Glenwood, Ark., to Bud and Cardealie Travis Lee. He was the retired owner of Lee’s Heating, Air and Electrical and was a pioneer in the air conditioning industry, being one of the first to install air conditioning in the homes of Cass County. He also worked in new home construction, the saw mill Industry and was a cattle rancher.
He served in the U. S. Army during World War II and was a member of the Queen City Independent School District Board of Trustees for more than 18 years. He enjoyed spending time on many hunting and fishing trips to Colorado and playing guitar and singing with his brothers and sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Lesa Lee and Junior Lee; three sisters, Thelma Whatley, Ella Jackson and Margaret Rosebud Lee; and a brother, Virgil Lee.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Odom Lee of Queen City; two sons, Kenneth Lee and wife Jennifer of Queen City and Kent Lee of Baytown; two daughters, Teresa Penny and husband Mark of Atlanta and Peggy Forga of Queen City; 13 grandchildren, Christy Fitzgearld, Melisha Stafford, Patrick Penny, John Penny, Miranda Lee, Maggie Lee, Cassie Lindsay, Andrea Lee, Jock Lee, Kaden Lee and Ashland Lee, Shawna Mouser and Alan Bonner; and a number of great-grandchildren and other relatives.
Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, at Hanner Funeral Service.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 28, in the Hanner Funeral Chapel with Tom Hooten and Bro. Billy Dupree officiating. Interment followed at the Queen City Cemetery under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service.
 
BETTY JO BETTERTON CROW
July 4, 1934 - Aug. 23, 2017
Betty Jo Betterton Crow, 83, of Atlanta, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017, in a local adult care facility.
She was born July 4, 1934, in Bright Star, Ark., to Rube and Jeanetta Sikes Crow. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Atlanta, where she attended the Adult IV Lydia Sunday school class
She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Atlanta Chapter #151 for 42 years. During that time, she served as Worthy Matron for the chapter twice and secretary for 15 years. She also served as Order of the Eastern Star Deputy Grand Matron for District 1, section 9 from 2002 to 2003. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Linden Chapter #576. She served as Mother Advisory for the Atlanta Chapter of the Order of the Rainbow Girls from 1978 to 1984. She was also a member of the Texarkana, Texas Shrine Club, where she worked with her husband Hardy to organize and implement various collection drives to benefit Shriners Hospitals throughout the U. S.
She enjoyed volunteer work and gave of her time at the Atlanta Primary School as a reading partner and teacher’s aide. She also worked at the First Baptist Church Food Pantry. She enjoyed playing cards and dominoes as well as cooking, sewing and reading.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Betterton; a sister, Ann Wilburn; and her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Hardy Crow of Atlanta; son, James Crow and wife Brenda of Pittsburg; daughter, Sandra Horne and husband Jim of Atlanta; four grandchildren, Matthew Crow, Katy Estrada, Daniel Horne and Phillip Horne; two great-grandchildren, Madelyn Estrada and Juliet Estrada; and a number of other relatives.
Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, Hanner Funeral Service in Atlanta.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 26, in the Hanner Funeral Chapel with Bro. James Williams and the Rev. Wes Mills officiating. Interment followed at the Smyrna Cemetery under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service.

ROGER WADE RICE

Roger Wade Rice, 83, of Atlanta, went to sleep and awoke in the arms of Jesus, Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017, at his residence.
He was born June 1, 1934, in Texarkana, Ark., the son of Y. G., Jr. and Fern Rice. He was a former basketball coach and the agent of Roger Rice State Farm Insurance for 55 years and a member of First Baptist Church of Atlanta. He enjoyed playing golf, the harmonica and was an avid fan of the University of Arkansas Razorbacks. Roger never met a stranger. He loved life and spent much of his time at Caddo Lake.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Jeane Rice and his parents.
He is survived by two sons, Phil Rice and wife Donna of Atlanta and Chuck Rice and wife Nancy of Atlanta; daughter, Lauren Smith and husband John of Calhoun, La.; a brother, David Lynn Rice and wife Ellen of Glen Rose; five grandchildren, Sam Rice and wife Raegan of Atlanta, Ben Rice and wife Tiffany of New Caney, Connor Young-George Rice of Oklahoma City, Okla., John Garrett Smith of Calhoun, La., and Camryn Rice of Oklahoma City; three great-grandchildren, Brody Rice of Atlanta, Colby “C. J.” Rice of Atlanta and Samantha Rice of New Caney; special friend, Delores Cooper of Monroe, La.; and a number of nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends and very loyal policyholders.
Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, at Faith Community Church of The Nazarene, 104 N. Louise St. in Atlanta.
A private memorial service will be later.

PAULINE ‘POLLY’ STARKEY ELLIS

Pauline "Polly" Starkey Ellis, 93, of San Angelo, formerly of Atlanta, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, in San Angelo. She was born Dec. 11, 1923, in Atlanta to Charles and Lessie Bell Starkey. She was an Atlanta High School graduate Class of 1942 and was a majorette for the Band. She was the Rabbit Homecoming Queen in 1941.
After attending Baylor University, she married John Ellis and resided in San Angelo for more than 70 years, where she was a member of the First Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, Bill Ellis; and three daughters, Pollyanna Casey, Sally Morris and Merrijane Smith; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grand children; a nephew, Bill Starkey; and first cousin, Gordon Pynes. Interment was at the Fairmount Cemetery in San Angelo following a graveside service Monday, August 21.
