December 29, 1923 - July 14, 2021

Ann Williams age 97, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at her home surrounded by family.

Visitation was Monday, July 19, 2021, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, at Hanner Funeral Service.

Funeral services were at 2:00 pm, Monday, July 19, 2021, in the Hanner Funeral Chapel with Bro. Dave Bailey and Bro. Tony Roberts officiating.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 77 years, Edsel Williams; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Marilyn Williams; daughters, Linda Smith and husband Jerry, Dawn Backs and husband Larry; sister-in-law, Edna Sanders; four grandsons; two great-granddaughters; and four great-grandsons.

The family would like to express our deepest appreciation to Elara Home Health, Transcend Hospice, and Hands of Wisdom and especially Ann’s niece, Shirley Heldt, for their wonderful care and compassion to Ann.

During their 77 years together, Ann and Edsel spent 34 years of that time in Alaska making lots of memories, including surviving the big earthquake of 1964.

Several of those Alaska years were summers spent in different Alaskan villages where Ann worked as a cook for the work crews on Edsel’s jobs.

She quickly became well known for her cooking and baking skills. Then, there was her homemade gravy. Dawn loved her gravy so much that as a little girl she told her Mother that when she got to heaven she was going to ask Jesus to let her Mother be in charge of making gravy there.

Another food favorite was her homemade French fries. Her two oldest grandsons told her she should open a French fry restaurant.

And we can’t forget her ability to fix Spam in such a way that the entire crew on the job that summer ate it all and asked for seconds.

This was after the crew had steadfastly refused to eat the Spam before Ann got there to cook.

Ann always pitched in wherever she could be helpful, especially in church, where she and Edsel were faithful members of Huffines Baptist Church, and where Edsel taught the same Sunday school class for 40 years.

Her well-worn Bible is testimony of how much she loved the Lord Jesus.

Do you have Jesus in your heart today?
