Reading the old newspaper of Atlanta is a very educational experience. Besides learning who the first families and businesses were, we can find out some very interesting tidbits. A favorite fun fact: The first shipment of freight out of Atlanta was a bundle of opossum hides.
A fundraiser was held at MJ’s Bar and Pizzaria on May 21st to raise money to offset Monica Teague’s medical bills incurred recently when she had surgery due to cancer. Family and friends gathered for a crawfish boil, pool tournament, silent auction and outdoor games. The event raised over $8,000.00.
Blake Sampson the baby at the heart of the Charles Edwin Brooks, Jr case is making some progress but is still very much fighting for his life. It was first reported on April 23, 2021, that Charles picked up Blake from his grandmother’s Texarkana house and drove from there to his Dallas home with his stepson. Charles then later called Madison before she left work and told her that Blake fell down the stairs. Madison then called 911. After an officer arrived at the scene, he called an ambulance to take Blake to Medical City hospital in Dallas, where doctors found evidence of abuse in multiple blunt force trauma and severe bruising and brain swelling; and adult bite marks on the boy’s body.
Flint’s Furniture, a community furniture store, has now been open for seven years and is already expanding to provide the Cass County community with more choices, an even better selection, and a special place for clearance and scratch and dent items. Flint’s Outlet is in the old Sears building located at 301 E Main St in Atlanta, Texas. The Outlet will be celebrating their grand opening on June 23.
