UIL passes, denies proposals
The University Interscholastic League (UIL), which governs athletic, musical, and academic contests for public primary and secondary schools in Texas, met on June 14 to consider numerous rule changes.

On Saturday, June 18 the Cass County Juneteenth committee members and vendors started setting up at 8 a.m. Games included volleyball, dominoes, cards, and of course a wet bounce house for the children.
In the June 15 Journal-Sun it was officially announced that the City of Bloomburg was accepting sealed bids for a four-person crew that would include demolition and construction of the interior walls of the new City Hall. According to Bloomburg Mayor Delores Simmons, the city of Bloomburg is in process of taking bids to build offices in the newly purchased building that was once the Bloomburg Foods Store and recently Danny’s Steak and Seafood Restaurant.
On June 19 Shawn Harvey released information that “Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens along with Cass County and Bowie County first responders are working a drowning on Lake Wright Patman. The victim was a passenger on a personal watercraft and was not wearing a life jacket. This is an ongoing investigation, and we will update as information comes available. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family and friends.”
Several people joined Trammel’s Trace DAR, Ark-La-Tex SAR, VFW 5870, and the JE Manning American Legion Post 258 members for the Flag Retirement Ceremony on June 14 at 3:30 p.m. at the Legion Hall. (Photos courtesy J.E. Manning American Legion Post 258)
