Cold case solved after 42 years

It has been 42 long years since Karen and Gordon Alexander were found slain in their Texarkana home. According to police reports Weldon Eugene “Hip” Alexander from Bloomburg, Texas called the police to alert the authorities that his two children were stabbed in their home. It turned out years later a cold case was solved after DNA evidence implicated the father of the Alexander siblings.

State-ordered feasibility review of Marvin Nichols prompts urgent comment period

A new development in the decades- long fight over a proposed reservoir in Northeast Texas is offering Texans a chance to speak out in defense of private property and against the use of eminent domain for an unnecessary, outdated water project. The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) is conducting a feasibility review of the proposed Marvin Nichols Reservoir. This comes after State Representative Gary Van-Deaver requested the review as part of House Bill 1, which passed the Legislature earlier this year.

Balaam and Susan Allen Thomas

Some Cass County Thomas families came to Texas from Campbell County, Georgia. Family legend is that they traveled by boat, arriving at Jefferson, in Marion County, Texas. They would have had to sailed well over a thousand miles after leaving their home, going south on the Chattahoochee River in Georgia to Florida, then on the Apalachicola River to the Gulf of Mexico, across that body of water to the mighty Mississippi River. There they navigated upstream through Louisiana, until they reached the winding Red River. They proceeded up it until they reached Shreveport, then westward on Big Cypress River into Texas to Jefferson.
