Our 1st Educational Series was a success. I want to thank Caffe’Crema,Chicken Express,The Dawngeon and Atlanta ISD Culinary Class for their food donations for the event. We were all well fed. This is a quarterly event. If you were unable to attend we plan to have a recording of last week’s educational series available to you next week. Our next topic will be business tax information for your small business. Lacy Hicks, the chief appraiser will be our speaker. The date will be announced in the coming weeks.
This beautiful nurses home was built in March, 1937, at a cost of $3,000.00. It contains a large living room, five bedrooms, bath, kitchenette, with many builtin conveniences. The home is occupied by six registered nurses employed at the Ellington Memorial Hospital, while it is large enough to take care of more nurses as needed at the hospital.The Ellington Memorial Hospital was erected in 1936 and equipped at a cost of over $25,000.00. The hospital has eleven beds, complete equipped operating room, obstetrical room, complete laboratory, X-ray oxygen tent, BMR Ray machine,Vera Violet Ray machine, Diathermy machine.Modernly equipped throughout.Nurses: Miss Georgia Poole,Miss Lois Perry, Miss Mildred Petty, Miss Martha Stevens, Miss Eva Alexander, and Miss Helen Fouke. Mrs. Kelly Arnold, office assistant and bookkeeper. Drs. Joe D. Nichols and E.W. Grumbles, M.D. and Dr.A.C. Jordan, dentist. NOTE: This building still stands, behind the empty lot where the clinic used to be.
