Governor Abbott announces Phase II to open Texas

AUSTIN - Governor Greg Abbott today announced the second phase of the State of Texas’ ongoing plan to safely and strategically open Texas while minimizing the spread of COVID-19. Under Phase II, restaurants may increase their occupancy to 50% and additional services and activities that remained closed under Phase I may open with restricted occupancy levels and minimum standard health protocols laid out by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).

Extension office to sponsor food drives

The Cass County Extension Office has been asked to sponsor and organize food drives at the county level to benefit local food pantries or the food bank. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Texas food banks are serving 88% more clients than this time last year.

Board votes to hire new teachers

The Queen City ISD board of directors held its regular meeting on Monday and welcomed new board member, Phillip Hamilton, who ran unopposed after former board member, Shawn Fitzgerald, chose not to run for reelection.

Appraisal district seeks new board member

The Cass County Appraisal Board of Directors met last Tuesday at the historic Cass County Court House in Linden to implement social-distancing measures. It was the board’s first in-person meeting since March 18.
