This week’s Cass County Pioneer is Ted Thompson. Atlanta High School football alumni Ted Thompson was born January 17, 1953. After playing football for AHS, Thompson went to Southern Methodist University where he was the starting linebacker and place kicker for three years. Thompson served as team captain his senior year at SMU. His skills and leadership caught the eye of the Houston Oil- who signed him in 1975, under the management of legendary coach, Bum Phillips. Thompson played for the Oilers for ten years. Then, he took an eight-year hiatus. In 1992, he moved off the field and into scouting. Thompson scouted for the Green Bay Packers for seven years. There, he played a key role in the personnel evaluation and selection which led to Packers’ mid-1990’s resurgence and Superbowl XXXI victory.
Seals and logos have been used throughout history to embody the identity and inherent purpose of governments, families, business and social organizations, and other entities. The Linden Heritage Foundation Seal, prominently features one of Linden’s lighted historic streetlamps, grew out of discussions between Jim Jacob, Anna Barber, and Sue Lazara. The group wanted an image uniquely and tangibly associated with historic Linden and exemplifying the goals and activities of the foundation itself. But where do you find such an image?
The Linden Heritage Foundation was founded by Sue M. Lazara, Sam L. Higdon, Joe B. Lovelace, and James S. Jacob in September of 2015 as a nonprofit corporation to encourage the preservation of all significant historic structures, archeological sites, objects and customs relating to the heritage and uniqueness of the city of Linden and all that is historically admirable and distinctive in it. The Foundation’s first project was the historic Linden water tower.
