Linden-Kildare DECA students competed in the District Competition on Monday,Jan.13.L-K had eleven students to advance to the State Competition on Mar.6-8.In Buying and Merchandising Operations Research - Carley Hays,Hannah Snow and Emilee Stone.In Finance Operations Research - Kyleigh Abernathy,Brooklynne Dalrymple and Allie Watson. In Business Services Operations Research Event - Logan Grandmaison, Josh Klaver and Luke Slatton. In Project Management Business Solutions - Lilly Robles and Aamyiah Mack.

Local club works to bring awareness of human trafficking

January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month. Every year since 2010, the President has dedicated the month to raise awareness about human trafficking and to educate the public about how to identify and prevent this crime. The U.S. Department of State raises awareness of human trafficking domestically and abroad, through U.S. embassies and consulates.

My father, Richard Eldred Blalock, was named for his grandfathers but was called “Dred”, by all and sundry even as his grandfather was. I am the older of his two children, and the nearest they could get to “Dred” for a girl was “Mildred”, my younger brother later being called “Arden”. I had a lot of fun when I was a kid when asked by other youngsters what my father’s real name was. I always answered “Mildred” of course”. Since his initials of R.E. refuted that statement, it should not have carried any weight but kids don’t think very far and I had my laugh.
