BURN BAN ISSUED

BURN BAN ISSUED

Cass County has come under a burn ban effective August 9 due to drought conditions. Judge Travis Ransom issued the ban shortly before Governor Abbott’s wildfire disaster declaration on August 11. Abbott’s declaration included 11 East Texas counties including Cass. This comes at a time when much of the state is suffering from drought. Even though Northeast Texas does not officially show drought conditions (according to droughtmonitor.unl.edu) the dry weather is prime for wildfires. For that reason, County and State officials are issuing prohibitions and guidelines for burning.
