In 1939 The Citizens Journal printed a special 50th Anniversary issue full of interesting articles. Following are two of them, reprinted here as originally written. One describes the beginning of Union Chapel Methodist Church; the other gives detailed information about several residences and businesses in early Atlanta.

Gospel Celebration at Music City Theater

On June 11, Music City Theater hosted a gospel music concert showcasing local musicians, with the goal of expressing their love and faith in God. According to Flo Stevenson, “The ‘Gospel Celebration’ was initiated by Sammy Higdon. He called a few folks and they said they were definitely interested in seeing it happen at Music City. The initial brainstorming meeting, in Oct 2021, was held at the Linden Library with six people present, only one performed regularly, Jimmie Harrison. A representative from MCT, David Hulme, was present and said that June 11 date was available at the theater, afterward, all meetings would be held at Music City Theater in Linden.”

There are times when we feel like we are lost in a sea of people. However, at the Rotary International (RI) Convention we each realized that each one is significant, important, and has a job! Our speakers ranged in age from 11 to 86 and, WOW, what a difference they made in the world!
