Relay for Life successful
Cass County Relay for Life had a successful turnout despite it raining earlier in the day.
The event took place on Friday, March 29 in Linden, Texas around the historical courthouse square.
The event raised $2,839.28 Friday night and with the money raised prior to the event amounted to $20,898.44.
The laps taken for the relay were walked on the sidewalk around the courthouse.
Aaron Whitehead served as DJ during the event and there were other entertainers who performed during the event as well.
There was an ice cream social for the survivors earlier in the day at First Baptist Church of Linden.
“We had a good turnout and we were blessed that the rain stopped and the skies cleared for our event. We hope to have the next Cass County Relay for Life in downtown Atlanta,” said Christina Shields, co-chair of the event.
“Thank you to the City of Linden for allowing us to host the event on the square. I felt like the square was a great location and brought out people that don’t usually attend the event when it is out at the football stadiums,” said Shields.
The first lap around the courthouse was taken by the cancer survivors after each survivor announced how long it has been since they were declared cancer free.
A bounce house was setup on the lawn of the courthouse for the children to enjoy. There were also events for the youth such as a boxcar race among other neat activities.
The teams that participated this year was Laws Chapel United Methodist Church, Cass County Cowboy Church, Christus St. Michael, Atlanta Women’s Club, Cass County Bank, and Texana Bank.
Headers, a car club from Atlanta,Texas, brought out several antique vehicles for people to view.
There was a luminaria ceremony in rememberance of survivors or individuals who lost the battle to cancer.
