New executive director named for LEDC

Linden Economic Development Corporations’ newly hired executive director, Gus Gustafson, comes to Linden from his hometown of Winnsboro.
In Winnsboro he was employed as the Main Street Manager for the past couple of years. Winnsboro boasts a cultural arts district.
“Since my background is strong in Main Street as well as economic development I am pretty excited that Linden has become an official Main Street City, because I believe the EDC and Main Street need to work together for the good of Linden as a whole,” said Gustafson. “Allie (Anderson, Linden Main Street Manager) is doing some things that are very beneficial, such as the new website.”
Gustafson also served as community development specialist in Sulphur Springs and helped with economic development in Pittsburg. Gustafson has a degree from Clear University of Ann Arbor, Michigan in business administration and marketing.
“The downtown is ready and primed for revitalization,” said Gustafson.
Gustafson also is a musician and has a background in helping with music festivals.
“I love the music and the arts,” said Gustafson.
He volunteered to help with the T. Bone Walker Blues Fest for seven years.
“When you say, ‘what do you think about Linden right now,’ I think it is positioned perfectly for some real fun downtown revitalization,” said Gustafson. “I used to come to Linden when they had the Texas Music Awards.
“Tourism is the second largest industry in our wonderful nation so when economic development says go after industry we are. If we use the arts and music to revitalize our downtown we could turn into a destination and quality of life situation through Main Street then that will attract the industry and job creation that we want.”
