Local church assembling supplies for hurricane aftermath clean-up

First United Methodist Church-Atlanta is assembling “flood buckets” filled with cleaning supplies to assist south Texans in their recovery from flooding related to Hurricane Harvey.

The buckets will contain items to assist families in cleaning up in the aftermath of the ongoing flooding.

The community will be asked to gather on Sept. 9 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the church to assemble the buckets.

Church officials pointed out there are many ways to assist in the effort:
-The cost of a stocked cleaning bucket is $65. Those who want to donate can bring a check to FUMC-Atlanta with "flood bucket" in the memo and the church will assemble the bucket. (The church is located at 701 Lindsey Ln., Atlanta).
-People are welcome to purchase supplies themselves, assemble a bucket, then bring it to the church. (Aaron’s has agreed to be a drop-off location after church hours, church officials said).

-People can purchase any of the items for a bucket that fit their budget, and the church will use them in assembling buckets.

The effort is open to anyone who wants to help. Items will be collected until Sept. 6, then prepared for delivery to south Texas. For more information, contact the church office at 903-796-8247.
