Linden Main Street to host Pop-Up business week downtown
In an effort to chip away at a high vacancy rate around the historic courthouse square,
Linden Main Street is trying a new approach to business recruitment. During the week following Thanksgiving, visitors and residents will find Linden’s typically quiet downtown square come alive with temporary “pop-up shops” in vacant buildings.
Linden Main Street Manager, Allie Anderson, explains that the goal of Pop-Up Week is “pretty simple – we have empty buildings where we need businesses, so we are giving entrepreneurs a chance to try out a business idea and test the market in hopes that one of them will take the leap and open a permanent location in our downtown.” The event will kick off on November 25th, American Express’ Small Business Saturday – a celebration of small, local businesses across the country following Black Friday.
Anderson notes that the organization hopes to attract “anyone who has an idea for a new business that they want to test out, or who may already have a successful business in another town and want to look at expanding and opening another location.”
To further incentivize participation in the event, Linden Main Street has partnered up with businesses and other local organizations to offer a special deal to the first pop-up shop to sign a permanent lease in the Main Street district after Pop-Up Week has concluded: Six months free water and sewer service from the City of Linden, trash pick-up from Sanitation Solutions, and fiberoptic internet service plus free installation from Etex Communications, an energy audit from SWEPCO, a one-year membership with the Linden Area Chamber of Commerce with a ribbon-cutting event, an in-depth business consultation with the Northeast Texas Small Business Development Center, and one free ad in the local newspaper, The Cass County Sun.
