CCSO uses drone to locate stolen heavy equipment
An Atlanta, Texas man, Gary Edwardo Shepard, has been charged with theft of property after stolen heavy equipment was found on his property.
After Cass County Sheriiff Deputies got a lead that stolen heavy equipment was being concealed on Shepard’s property they hired a drone pilot to take aerial view pictures of the property.
The deputies reviewed the photos and saw that the mini excavator was hidden between two shed they obtained a search warrant.
Cass County Sheriff’s Deputies, Atlanta Police officers, and DPS officers executed the search warrant on Aug. 1.
During the search of the property, officers found a stolen skid steer, mini excavator and a large trailer.
Officers also found several firearms of which one was stolen.
The mini excavator was stolen out of Abilene, Texas where Shepard was working.
“In recent months, we found him in possession of property in the same nature, that is one reason we flew the drone over the property,” said Cass County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Sabrina Sartor.
A warrant has been issued for Gary Edwardo Shepard and as of Monday afternoon he was not in custody.
