CCSO partners with Project Childsafe
The Cass County’s Sheriff’s office, in conjunction with Project Childsafe, a nationwide firearms safety education program, is distributing free firearms safety kits to local residents.
The safety kits include a cable-style gun lock and will be distributed until there are none left. They will be available at the Cass County’s Sheriff’s office in Linden, at 604 Highway 8 North.
Project Childsafe is a program developed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) to educate community members on safe firearms-handling practices. It works to reduce firearms accidents in communities.
The program is supported by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance and the firearms industry.
“Safe firearms practices and storage should be practiced all the time, so we can reduce the number of accidents and create a safer environment for our community,” said Cass County Sheriff Larry Rowe.
“We encourage residents to pick up a Project ChildSafe safety kit, which includes a safety curriculum and a cable-style gun lock. The locks fit on most handguns, rifles and shotguns.”
Director of Project Childsafe Bill Brassard Jr. said, “We are pleased to have the Cass County Sheriff’s office as a Project ChildSafe Partner. Project ChildSafe is an important step forward in helping ensure that all firearms owners fully understand their responsibilities with respect to the safe handling and storage of firearms.”
The National Shooting Sports Foundation is the trade association for the firearms industry.
