Just Love & Kindness in Action

Atlanta High School Student Council students joined peers from seven other districts for a Just Love & Kindness service event, putting compassion into action. Students first assembled care bags filled with blankets, gloves, and hygiene items, then toured Mission Texarkana, the Randy Sams Shelter, and the Salvation Army Center of Hope, leaving the bags behind to support those experiencing homelessness.The day was a powerful reminder of the impact service, empathy, and community can make.

Huddie Ledbetter (Lead Belly) 1888-1949

Huddie Ledbetter, singer and guitarist, known as Lead Belly (also spelled Leadbelly), was born on January 21, 1888, near Mooringsport, Louisiana. He was the son of a Black tenant farmer, Wesley Ledbetter, and his half Indian wife, Sally (or Sallie) Pugho. Ledbetter attended public schools in Louisiana, then in East Texas after his family purchased a small farm when he was ten. The family was listed in the 1900 census for Harrison County.
