Redistricting bill heads to Abbott’s desk
Both the Texas House and Senate have passed a mid-decade redistricting bill that positions the GOP to pick up five additional congressional seats next year. Passage came after House Democrats ended their quorum-breaking walkout while still vowing to pursue legal challenges.
McNoble Harper
This week’s Cass County Pioneer is McNoble Harper. He was born on August 1, 1906, in Marietta, Texas. Though he began high school at New Zion School in Bivins, he finished at Pemberton High School in Marshall, Texas. After graduation, Harper earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Prairie View A&M University. Upon attaining his degrees, Harper returned to Cass County and began teaching and coaching basketball at Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta.
182nd Church Anniversary
Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church celebrated 182 years of service to the community at Pleasant Hill Church in Linden, Texas recently. The guest speaker was Reverend Roy Miles and the guest choir was Pine Bluff Baptist Church of Naples,Texas. The theme was “Walking with God” and even members over 80 years old were recognized and presented gifts. In this photo is, from left: Larry Young, Pastor Rev.
