Located in the southwestern corner of Cass County, at the intersection of State Highways 49 and 155, the town of Avinger was established in 1876. Hickory Hill, a settlement that began in the early 1840s, was located a mile south of the site of Avinger.

The Atlanta Area Women’s Club held its annual prayer breakfast on September 10, 2022, in the fellowship hall of First Baptist Church Atlanta. The club was entertained with classical and spiritual music from a talented violinist, Ethan Miller from Texarkana, AR. The speaker, Lindsey Thompson of Atlanta, gave a powerful message about God’s faithfulness in her life. New officers were announced, goals projected, and committee chairpersons appointed.
