Local church providing backpacks

Piney Grove Baptist Church will hold a back-to-school backpack drive Saturday, Aug. 10 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in their fellowship hall at 3268 Hwy. 77W, in Atlanta.

The church hopes to help provide the community with school supplies to those who need them, which will include backpacks and required school supplies - first come, first serve.

According to one of the workers, they have done school supply drives before but never one this big so they really consider this one their first annual backpack drive.

They currently have 100 backpacks filled with supplies for up to primary and elementary ages. They do also have supplies for the older kids as well. The idea came from a Sunday school group called the “gift class”.

Most of the women who put this event together are teachers themselves. They will also be doing free Awana sign-ups the day of the backpack drive.
