He told me to tell you that...

I became a statistic recently. Whoever said running was not a contact sport was not with me a couple of weeks ago. They say the emergency room treats over 24,000 runners every year due to accidents. My ego was probably more bruised than anything else but praise the Lord for band aids, gause and medical tape - that’s what has been holding me together. The Blonde (my wife Jennifer) makes a pretty good nurse and I’m thankful for her. I have not had a bloody nose since my older brother bloodied it when I was 15 (I’m sure I was de serving, ha).

Bessie Coleman had said as a child that she wanted to make something of herself. For an African-American at the turn of the century, there were few opportunities for that to happen. With the invention of airplanes, she found a magnificent new calling as the first African-American woman to become a pilot. As a famous stunt pilot in the 1920s, she toured the country, and all eyes looked skyward to see her perform.

Paddie’s legislative update

Last week, we started the 87th Legislature. Like many things this past year, the swearing-in ceremony was far different than past years and saw the legislative session open with less pageantry. Regardless of the circumstances, I am always honored to represent East Texas in the Legislature and will continue to work hard to bring our East Texas values to Austin.

We are in a time of transition at our office; though there are many words that describe how the changes have felt at different moments - overall spirits are high and great things are taking place.
