Young Rabbs battle the big boys, come away 6-2
The Atlanta Middle School boys’ basketball team recently showcased impressive performances, competing strongly against larger 5A schools. This past weekend’s display highlighted the team’s potential and growth, as the teams won six games and lost two.
Coaches were pleased with the competitive effort, as the Rabbits tuned up for more district play.
8A: Aiden Shields led the way for the Rabbits scoring seventeen as Atlanta defeated Hallsville 42-23. Kelvin Roberson netted seven, while Hardy Sheppard and KD Howell added five each. Ayden Washington had four, while Gaven Bumphus and Levi Cook added two each to round out the scoring for Atlanta.
In an extremely physical contest, Atlanta came up short of Jacksonville, 46-53. Aiden Shields scored sixteen, Kelvin Roberson fourteen and Hardy Sheppard nine to lead the Rabbs. Aiden Washington, Gaven Bumphus and Cole Hanner all added a bucket for Atlanta. The Rabbits are now 4-1 on the season and 3-0 in district play 7A: J’Kyron Anderson led all scorers with eleven as Atlanta was victorious over Hallsville 34-23. Jayden Moore had nine and Cruz Crosby chipped in eight. Zay Smith had four and Marquez Andrson added two for the Rabbs. Zay Smith showed out, scoring eighteen points and leading the Rabbits past Jacksonville 37-28. Cruz Crosby and J’Kyron Anderson added eight each, as the Rabbits improved their season record to 5-0 (3-0).
8B: Atlanta prevailed over Jacksonville 23-20. Riley Sutton netted eight, Jaxon Durmon seven, while Cole Hanner and Cordemian Roquemore added four each for the Rabbs. A loaded Whitehouse squad defeated the Rabbits 32-20. Cole Hanner paced Atlanta with ten, while Roquemore and Makai Martin added five each. The 8B Rabbs are now 4-1 (3-0) on the season.
7B: Eight Rabbits got at least one bucket on their way to a 38-4 victory over Jacksonville. JT McNeal had fourteen and Jayden Crenshaw seven to lead the victors. Rylan Buford scored six and Nash Winters had five as the Rabbs defeated Whitehouse 26-14. JT McNeal had five, Jayden Crenshaw four, and Dennis Gulley chipped in three, as the 7B Rabbits are now 5-0 (3-0) on the season.
The Rabbits will be back in action at home vs. Hooks on Monday, Dec. 16, with games beginning at 4:30 p.m.
