Tigers fall to Beckville in district matchup
Linden-Kildare celebrated Homecoming last Friday night and welcomed district foe Beckville to Jack Hetherington-Tigers Stadium in the same setting.
Vincent Peters and Nancy Pena Castillo were crowned king and queen before the contest.
First Quarter
The Tigers received the ball first and a nice kickoff return by Karson Bynum set L-K up at its own 38.
A couple of snapped fumbles on the drive led to a three-and-out, unfortunately, and the Tigers had to punt the ball away.
Beckville scored on its first play from scrimmage with 10:52 left in the first quarter.
The point after was no good but the Bearcats were up 6-0.
L-K’s next drive began at the 35. Tawin Patterson and Tae Mitchell displayed nice runs on the drive but a sack ended the Tigers’ threat on fourth down.
Tough tackles by Jonathan Owen, Brent White, Landon Liles, Tate Mitchell and Peters slowed the Bearcats down some, but Beckville eventually scored on the drive.
The PAT was good and the Bearcats led 13-0 with 7:01 left in the first frame.
L-K’s next drive took off with quarterback Mason Johnson hitting Owen for 10 yards.
Runs by Patterson and Russel Nance took the Tigers deeper into Bearcat territory, but a fumble recovered by Beckville ended the drive.
The Bearcats scored again with 37 seconds left to go in the opening quarter.
Beckville ran a successful 2-point play into the endzone and boosted its lead to 21-0.
Second Quarter
The second frame of the game started off with a nice 17-yard pickup by Patterson.
A penalty, an incomplete pass and a run for no yards forced L-K to punt again with 9:30 left in the first half.
Beckville scored again on its next drive despite solid tackling from Jackson Lee, Tyler Peterson and Liles.
The PAT was no good but the Bearcats led 27-0 with 8:48 left on the clock.
Nance and TaShawn Patterson had some nice runs which put the Tigers at midfield during the drive but a fumble ended the set of plays.
Fortunately for the Tigers, Johnson intercepted a pass on the first play from scrimmage which gave L-K the ball back.
The Tigers put together a nice drive with runs by Patterson and Nance but a strong stand by Beckville forced the Tigers to punt with 2:28 left in the half.
Beckville scored once more before halftime and boosted the score to 34-0 with the PAT and 34 seconds showing on the clock.
Third Quarter
The Bearcats received the ball to open the second half and put together a clock-eating drive. Beckville started the drive at the 42 and made it to the L-K 23 in seven plays.

A big pass play set the Bearcats up in the redzone but a stout stand by L-K’s defense eventually forced a turnover on downs with 4:01 left in the third stanza.
L-K put together a nice drive of its own as Tawin Patterson, Nance, TaShawn Patterson and Clayton Mulkey had solid runs which took the Tigers from the 2-yard line to the 45 as time expired on the quarter.
Fourth Quarter
Mulkey continued the drive with the opening of the final frame with runs of seven yards and nine yards respectfully.
Tawin Patterson picked up 20 yards and put the Tigers at the Bearcat 12.
For plays later the Tigers turned the ball over on downs with 8:03 left ibn the game.
Despite nice tackles by Lee, Liles, Jay Birmingham and Colton Anderson the Bearcats scored with 4:46 showing on the clock.
The PAT was good and Beckville was up 41-0.
L-K’s next drive was a steady dose of Mulkey and Nance.
The Tigers broke up a shutout after Nance scored on a 5-yard touchdown sprint.
The PAT was no good and the score projected 41-6 with 2:52 left in the fourth quarter.
Beckville scored once more and set the final score at 48-6.
L-K travels to Big Sandy this Friday night to take on the Wildcats. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
