Rabbs win in a thriller over Sabine
After going through a bit of a rough patch recently, Atlanta managed to bring it back and win against Sabine this homecoming week with a close final score of 40-37.
While the game was close, coming back from an open week seemed to have given Atlanta the time they needed to prepare for the game. With this victory under their belt, Atlanta has a season record of (3-3, 1-0).
First Quarter
Atlanta won the coin toss and chose to defer. Going first, Sabine quickly managed to get a touchdown and an extra point, making this a strong start for the Cardinals with a score of 7-0.
Not too long after this, Atlanta managed to get a 5-yard touchdown run by Markeylin Batton. Failing to score the extra point, the first quarter wrapped up with a score of 7-6.
Second Quarter
Not long after the second quarter began, Jaiden Riley scored a touchdown off a 20-yard pass by Peyton Harrison, bringing the score to 12-7 after an unsuccessful 2-point conversion.
Not keeping the ball for long, the ball quickly went back to Atlanta, where Batton scored an 11-yard rushing touchdown, again failing to get the 2-point conversion for a score of 18-7.
Sabine began to close the gap with a touchdown of their own, followed by a successful extra point that brought the score to 18-14.
Despite this, the second quarter remained strong for the Rabbits as they capped the first half of the game off with a touchdown by Jamarion Austin on a 6-yard pass by Harrison. With a failed 2-point conversion attempt, the score at the end of the second quarter was 24-14.
Third Quarter
Starting off the second half of the game, Atlanta soon lost the ball to Sabine who recovered it on a fumble.
From there, the Cardinals managed to score the first touchdown of the third quarter, and with a successful extra point, the score was brought to 24-21.
The two teams managed to keep it close for the remainder of the third quarter, with the only other points scored in the quarter coming from a 23-yard field goal kicked by Sabine, bringing the score to 2424.
Fourth Quarter
The fourth quarter started off tense, as the Cardinals got an early touchdown and extra point that brought the score to 31-24. Not too long after this, Jalarrion Andrews managed to score a touchdown on a 48-yard pass by Harrison, followed by a successful 2-point conversion by Jayden Riley the Rabbs led 32-31.
Not leaving the score that close for long, the Cardinals quickly scored a touchdown on a 76-yard pass with a failed 2-point conversion which brought the score to 37-32.
Regardless, it wasn’t enough, as Atlanta closed the game with a touchdown by Braylyn Rowe on a 7-yard pass by Harrison which was followed by a 2-point conversion by Riley on a pass by Harrison as well, bringing the final score to 40-37.
Harrison was 20-of-27 with 272 passing yards and four touchdowns, and he also gained 42 yards on the ground.
Batton recorded 155 yards rushing with two touchdowns and hauled in four passes for 104 yards, Andrews had 54 yards receiving with two scores, Riley amassed 71 yards receiving with a TD and Braylyn Rowe caught a touchdown pass.
Defensively, Riley had seven solo tackles, Andrews added six of his own, Dimoree Limbrick posted six and Sye Stroman had an interception.
With a season record of 3-3, the Rabbits will have a tough road ahead of them moving forward, starting with an away game against Jefferson (6-1, 1-0) next Friday at 7 p.m.
