Rabbs roll over New Boston

Atlanta Middle School’s football teams thumped New Boston last week as the seventh-grade team destroyed New Boston 44-0 and the eighth-grade team won 40-6.

Seventh Grade First Quarter

After a forced fumble and recovery by Jkyron Anderson, Zay Smith got the Rabbs on the board quickly with a 36-yard dash. Cruz Crosby added the 2-point run and Atlanta was up 8-0. On the ensuing Rabbit drive, Crosby found Jayden Moore behind the defense for a 61-yard catch and run for a score.

Anderson added the 2-point run to bring the score to 16-0.

Second Quarter

After another stellar defensive stand, New Boston fumbled the ball away again as Anderson once again came up with the recovery.

A few plays later, JT McNeal capped off a good drive with a 4-yard run. Jordan Crenshaw caught the 2-point reception from Crosby to put the Rabbs up 24-0.

Third Quarter

Smith got the second half started off with a bang after he returned the opening kickoff 70 yards to make the score 30-0.

The Rabbit defense once again stuffed the Lions’ offense and got the ball back.

On the next drive, Crosby picked up a low snap and sliced around the right edge for a 62-yard touchdown run.

McNeal added the 2-point run to put Atlanta ahead 38-0. Later in the quarter, Crenshaw cut through the defense and raced for a 55-yard score to put the Rabbs up 44-0.

Fourth Quarter

The clock ran for the entire fourth quarter as the final score posted Atlanta 44 - New Boston 0.

The seventh-grade Rabbits are 1-0.

Eighth Grade First Quarter

On the opening drive, Kelvin Roberson broke two tackles and skated 53 yards for the Rabbs’ first touchdown of the season.

With the Rabbits up 6-0, on the ensuing drive, Roberson blocked a New Boston punt, recovered by Aiden Shields.

This set the Rabbits up deep in Lion territory. A couple plays later, Brayden Thompson found Gaven Bumphus in the endzone for a 23-yard touchdown reception. Thompson completed the 2-point pass to Roberson to put Atlanta ahead 14-0.

Second Quarter

After another stellar defensive stand, the Rabbs set up once again in Lion territory.

KD Howell extended the Rabbits’ lead on a 27-yard scamper. Roberson caught the 2-point reception to make the score 22-0.

Later in the half, the Rabbit defense made life hard on the Lions, stuffing each drive and setting the offense up in great field position most of the game.

A few plays later, after a good drive, Thompson waltzed into the endzone on a 4-yard run to make it 28-0 Rabbits at the half.

Third Quarter

The Rabbits got on the board quick once again, this time on a 34-yard run by Mekai Martin which put Atlanta up 34-0.

Later in the quarter, Jaiden Finley added another score on a nice 15-yard run after reversing field. That score ballooned Atlanta’s lead to 40-0.

Fourth Quarter

It was a back-and-forth contest in the final minutes. New Boston added a late score, and the Rabbits moved the ball down the field, but couldn’t finish the drive.

The final score was Atlanta 40 – New Boston 6. The eighth-grade team moves to 1-0 on the season.

Atlanta travels to Mount Vernon this Thursday, Sept. 19, for more non-district action.
