Rabbits fall to Roughnecks
Atlanta welcomed White Oak to town last Friday night.
The Rabbs were looking to start off district play with a win but White Oak had other plans as they won the contest 30-20.
Atlanta got on the board first with a 67-yard drive which ended when Daniel Hernandez burst into the endzone from 1-yard out.
White Oak answered with a drive of its own and tied up the game at 7-7.
La’Randion Dowden scored from two yards out on Atlanta’s next drive and the Rabbits were up 14-7.
White Oak closed out the first quarter with another TD and the teams were tied 14-14 going into the second frame.
The Roughnecks drove the length of the field during the second quarter and scored once more before the half ended.
The PAT was no good and the score was set at 20-14 at halftime.
Atlanta tied things at 20-20 with 7:53 left in the third when Cooper McClure scored on a fake punt.
The Roughnecks pulled off its own fake punt during the next drive and eventually scored after a 65-yard drive.
The PAT was good and White Oak was up 27-20.
White Oak’s kicker nailed a 30-yard field goal with just a little over two minutes left in the third stanza to put the ’Necks up 30-20.
Neither team scored in the final frame.
Jack Plunk had 91 yards passing, Hernandez ended the night with 74 yards rushing with a TD, McClure had a 73-yard fake punt run for a score and Dowden added 87 yards on the ground and a touchdown.
McClure also had 72 yards receiving and Zackyus Jackson had 13.
Defensively, Xavier Nash led the way with 14 tackles, Marquavioun Owens posted 11 and DK Parker had 10.
Atlanta travels to Sabine this Friday night with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
