Rabbits cruise to a Bi-District title

Game One

Atlanta’s baseball team cruised to a Bi-District title after topping Mount Vernon, 8-0, 12-4, this past weekend. Mount Vernon was the third-place team out of District 7.

It was all Rabbs in this one as Atlanta won the game 8-0 over Mount Vernon.

Atlanta scored most of its runs in the second inning which started off with Nick Burden hitting a double. Easton Owens plated Burden after hitting a double of his own. Peyton Gaston singled before Peyton Harrison singled and brought in Owens for a score.

Both Peyton’s scored on a double hit by Jaden Riley which put the Rabbs up 4-0. Ty Graf brought in Riley with a single and Atlanta had a 5-0 lead going into the next inning.

In the fifth inning Will Woodruff singled then stole second base. He scored on a nice bunt by Graf.

Owens drove in another run with a single and Atlanta was up 7-0. The final run of the contest came after Burden doubled and Owens brought him home with a double of his own.

Woodruff pitched a 2-hit shutout gem over seven innings with eight strikeouts. He also had two base hits in the game.

Harrison had three hits with an RBI, Riley added a double with two RBIs, Graf had two hits with two ribbies, Dex Ebarb hit a double, Burden hit two doubles, Owens had three hits with two doubles and three ribeyes, Corbin Farmer added a single and Gaston hit a single.

Game Two

Atlanta scored all of its runs in the first four innings with six in the first, one in the second, two in the third and three in the fourth as the Rabbs earned a Bi-District crown with a 12-4 win over the Tigers.

In the first inning, Peyton Harrison singled and later scored on a Jaden Riley double. Will Woodruff singled which put runners on the corners.

Dex Ebarb singled and Riley scored, and Woodruff scored on a passed ball which put Atlanta ahead 3-0.

Nick Burden and Easton Owens walked before Corbin Farmer hit a sac fly. Cooper Swanson plated two with a bases-clearing double and the Rabbs took a commanding 6-0 lead.

Mount Vernon scored a run in the second ining but Atlanta put up a run of its own in the bottom half after Riley was plunked by a pitch and Woodruff doubled. Graf brought in a run on a groundout.

The Tigers pulled within four runs after a 3-run third inning.

In the third frame, Owens reached base on an error and Farmer was hit by a pitch. Swanson loaded the bags with a single. Atlanta’s next two runs came via hit batter and a walk which put the Rabbs up 9-3.

In the fourth stanza, Burden walked, Owens was hit by a pitch and Brenden Clayton walked to load the bases.

Swanson walked which scored a run, Owens scored on a passed ball and Riley brought in the final run of the game for the Rabbs on a nice-hit single to left field. The Tigers scored again in the sixth but never threatened with a comeback.

Eli Dryden, Eli Stevens and Burden all shared time on the hill. Harrison had a base hit, Riley posted two hits with a double and three RBIs, Woodruff had two hits with a double, Graf had two ribbies, Ebarb added an RBI single, Farmer had a ribeye and Cooper Swanson had two hits with a double and three RBIs.

The Rabbits will take on New Diana in the Area round of the state playoffs with all games to be played at Mount Pleasant High School.

Game one is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, game two will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 12, and game three, if necessary, will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 13.
