Queen City Lady Bulldogs win Area championship
Queen City’s softball team hasn’t lost a game since Mar. 8.
The Lady Bulldogs (23-7, 11-1) opened the season with three straight losses to 5A/6A schools in a tournament.
After winning its final game of the tourney, QC went on to lose three more games consecutively with one of those being a 10-2 loss to White Oak on Feb. 24.
Since then the Lady Bulldogs have won 22-of-23 games, have won a District Championship, have won a Bi-District championship and just recently won an Area title over White Oak.
Game One
In game one the Lady Bulldogs edged the Lady Roughnecks 3-2 in extra innings, as both pitchers were on fire.
Trinity Oden scattered five hits and struck out seven in her 8-inning complete game.
White Oak had a 1-0 lead until the fourth frame where QC scored two runs.
The Lady Necks tied the game up in the bottom half of the fourth inning and the game went into extras.
In the top of the eighth, Erica Lavoie was hit by a pitch and made it to second base after a wild pitch.
Brenna Turbeville laid down a nice sac bunt to move Lavoie to third. Lavoie scored on another wild pitch and QC was up by a run.
White Oak had a runner get on base with two outs but a ground out ended the contest.
Lauren Carrell and Laurel Moore both hit singles and Oden added a RBI.
Game Two
In the second game QC sealed an Area title with a 5-2 win over White Oak.
Trinity Oden scattered six hits over seven innings and struck out six.
Jacey Cauthorn hit a 2-run blast and added a single to her stat line, Brenna Turbeville hit a double, Mallori Stringer hit a RBI single, Oden added a single, Laurel Moore hit a RBI single and Kelsey Nash hit two singles.
The Lady Bulldogs will take on Mt. Vernon beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, game two will be at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, and if necessary game three will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 14.
All games will be played at Mt. Pleasant High School.
