Queen City FFA competes in San Antonio Junior Shoot-Out

Fourteen members of the Queen City High School Shooting Sports Team attended the San Antonio Junior Shoot-Out last weekend which is held in conjunction with the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo every February.

The Junior Shoot-Out offers qualifying Texas 4-H and FFA members the opportunity to compete in shotgun shooting sports for scholarships and prizes. In this highly competitive event, individuals shoot in Open Boys, Open Girls, Age Group and Lewis Class divisions.

Winners in each division advance to the Finals Event, which allows them a full day to display their impressive shooting skill.

QCHS FFA had students competing in both the Trap and Sporting Clays Divisions. Eveyn Upchurch led the team in Trap with a score of 94 out of a possible 100 and followed up on Day 2 with an 84 out of 100 in Sporting Clays.

Spencer Warren held the high score among his teammates in Sporting Clays with an 88 out of 100. Both boys barely missed qualifying for the Finals in Sporting Clays on their respective courses.

After the initial competition was completed, Kyle Campbell had the opportunity to compete in one of the Lewis Class Divisions on Saturday night.

He and 11 other shooters competed in a shootout to narrow the field to five. On Sunday morning, those five finalists competed by shooting a round of 25, and Kyle came home as a big winner placing second in his Division, and walking away with a Henry .22 Lever Action Rifle, Belt Buckle, and three flats of shells.

Other team members participating in the event include Cody Blank, Madeline Clayton, Justin Lance, Justin Mitchell, Kenzy Nichols, Aden Norton, Shawn Powell, Colton Powers, Nathan Restelle, Steven Stone, and Reagan Wright.
