The new face of Linden-Kildare softball
Sports Editor’s Note: The lull of the holidays can bring school sports news to a halt other than the occasional basketball tournament. Although it’s not time for softball the season will be here before you know it and I wanted to share this article provided by Vernon Groce during this downtime.
There seems to be a huge feeling of excitement in the softball program at Linden- Kildare CISD.
Although the season doesn’t start until January 24, a lot of work has been going on at L-K’s softball field, thanks to new head softball coach Brian Cave.
Cave, a 1985 graduate of L-K, has been working in the maintenance department since July of 2018, and from day one has taken a special pride in beautifying both the baseball and softball fields, recently applying new Turface and seeding in new grass; much needed fence repair and dugout facelifts just to name a few things accomplished by Cave and the maintenance staff.
Brian Cave was a part of the L-K baseball team who made it to state in ’84, and ’85 where he played pitcher and shortstop.
He went on to play college ball at Texarkana Community College and as of September became the new head softball coach of L-K.
“A number of people in the community are really excited to be behind us, as well as the school, and the booster club; it is very exciting. Our goal is to get the first win; our next is to get the district title. We have a good chance to be in the top two in district if we can learn to play as a team, not as a person. I feel we have some good experience on our team with many return players from last year that made the playoffs,” said Cave recently.
Linden-Kildare CISD will be hosting a tournament Feb. 20-22 and March 16 , there will be a special “pink-out” game to support cancer awareness.
“This is something I feel very passionate about since losing both my parents to cancer. We will also be selling BBQ plates with a portion of the proceeds going to a cancer charity,” remarked Cave.
