McLeod’s Keldyn Schubert posts quadruple double in win

’Horns beat Rebels, other local basketball scores

No. 6 McLeod 53, James Bowie 34

The Longhorns followed up a big win over Rivercrest with a, 53-34, thumping of James Bowie on Jan. 8.

McLeod led, 21-5, after the first frame and had a, 27-16, lead at halftime.

A 31-18 run in the second half sealed the victory for the ’Horns.

Keldyn Schubert recorded a quadruple-double in the contest with 22 points, 10 steals, 10 rebounds and 11 assists.

Nos Gryder poured in nine points, Casey Smith eight and both Silas Murdock and Nathan parker scored five points apiece.

The JV team toasted James Bowie, 48-16, with Braden Parker scoring 11 and Jaxon Smith 10.

No. 6 McLeod 60, No. 8 Rivercrest 56

McLeod entered hostile territory Jan. 5, as the Longhorns traveled to play Rivercrest in a top 10, state ranked battle.

To this point Rivercrest was undefeated.

The Rebels ended the first quarter up, 15-11, and had a, 30-25, lead at the half.

McLeod turned the tides in the third frame and went on a 17-7 run which set the score at, 42-37, in favor of the ’Horns.

Rivercrest outscored McLeod 13-8 in the fourth quarter and forced overtime in the process.

McLeod ended Rivercrest’s 12-game winning streak as the Longhorns went on a 10-6 run and won the game 60-56.

Keldyn Schubert and Casey Smith each scored 22 points in the win.

McLeod’s JV team also won against Rivercrest with a, 38-29 victory.

McLeod 58, Rivercrest 24

McLeod’s varsity girls’ basketball team trounced Rivercrest, 58-24, Jan. 5, and pushed its record to (11- 4, 6-0).

McLeod had a, 26-15, lead the break but a 32-9 run in the second half put the game away.

Ella Lambeth led all scorers with 18 points and she also had seven rebounds.

Cary May tossed in 12 points, Chassie Gryder added 10, Kaitlyn Cross seven and Kenslee Cross six with six rebounds.

Gracie Lance pulled down 10 boards and Sibbie Comer pulled down eight boards in the game.

The JV ladies lost a close game, 20-15, with Peyton Johnson leading McLeod with nine points.

Queen City 34, Paul Pewitt 63

Queen City’s Lady Bulldogs’ varsity basketball squad hosted the Paul Pewitt Lady Brahmas Jan. 5.

QC battled hard but fell in the end by a score of 63- 34.

Lauren Carrell led the way for the Lady Bulldogs with 12 points, Nyla Harrison added 11, Serenity Oden put up four, Hannah Fitts posted three, Gracie Weeks two and Mallori Stringer and Jamecia Cook scored one point apiece.
