Local Hoops
Over the holidays a few local school games were scheduled.
Atlanta
The Atlanta varsity boys’ team took part in the Tenaha Holiday Hoops Tournament.
Day 1
On day one the Rabbs topped San Augustine, 64-40. Daimion Collins posted 22 points with eight boards and eight blocks, Alex Boston added 14 points and 11 rebounds, Keyshawn Easter had 10 points, Hunter Allen nine and Caleb Hamilton five.
Day 2
On day two the Rabbs fell to Academy, 61-46. Daimion Collins had 17 points, Alex Boston 13 and both Keyshawn Easter and Hunter Allen scored eight points apiece. Atlanta rebounded by beating Thorndale, 66-52. Collins had 29 points with eight rebounds and seven blocks, Allen had 13 points with five boards, Caleb Hamilton added 10 points and Easter recorded five points.
Day 3
On day three Atlanta beat Sabine, 52-42. Daimion Collins posted 15 points and 12 boards, Hunter Allen 11 points and nine rebounds, Caleb Hamilton nine buckets and Keyshawn Easter seven. Collins made the All-Tournament team.
Versus Pewitt
District play opened up Jan. 3, with the Rabbs hosting Paul Pewitt. Atlanta claimed its first district contest with an, 81-38, victory over the Brahmas with the “Twin Towers” combining for 48 points 13 rebounds and 14 blocks. Daimion Collins scored 26 points with seven boards and 10 blocks, Hunter Allen scorched the nets for 22 points, six rebounds and four blocks, Alex “Downtown” Boston posted 13 points with six rebounds and Keyshawn Easter had eight points.
McLeod
Both the McLeod Longhorns and Lady Longhorns competed in the Mt. Vernon Classic over the holidays. The boys’ team jumped out to a, 20-3, first quarter lead and finished up strong as they blasted Daingerfield, 72-28. Trevor Deel led the way with 21 points and 10 boards, Keldyn Schubert added 12 points with 11 assists, Casey Smith posted 12 points, Austin Gilmore had 11 points and took three charges for the ’Horns (18-2), Kobe Bonner had nine points and Silas Murdock seven. The Lady Longhorns rolled also as they decimated Harmony, 56-13. Kaitlyn Cross had 16 points, Gracie Lance 12, Jillian Parker and Sibbie comer each added seven points and Cary May had five.
Versus Detroit
The Lady Longhorns beat Detroit, 52-24, on New Year’s Eve. Gracie Lance poured in 16 points, Sibbie Comer 14 and Ella Lambeth eight. The JV team won, 26-10, with Jacie Armstrong scoring seven points for McLeod.
Versus Spring Hill
McLeod had a pretty cool game against Spring Hill at the American Airlines Center in Dallas Jan. 4. Spring Hill never finished a quarter with double digits as McLeod won, 35-20. Kaitlyn Cross had 14 points and Gracie Lance added 12.
