Lady Rabbs seal district championship
Atlanta’s volleyball team has been on a solid adventure this season and it culminated with a district championship.
The Lady Rabbs (22-6, 11-0) needed to beat New Boston for an all-out district title and did so on Oct. 21.
It wasn’t easy by any means as Atlanta won sets one and two by scores of 25-18, 25-22, but the Lady Lions won sets three and four 25-23, 25-22.
Rylie Pattillo had 20 assists and nine digs, Annemarie Hanner added 20 assists and two aces, Kym Sheppard posted 14 kills and four blocks, Sabriiyah Young had six kills, Amaya Young recorded seven kills and three blocks, Kaylon Partain set 31 digs, six kills and five aces, Janeisha Fields had five kills and two blocks, Carlajah Adger had eight digs and Ziza Garcia had seven digs.
The final set went to Atlanta 15-7. Head Coach Taureaus Maxwell had this to say about the match.
“We battled tonight. New Boston came with some heat and played smart. We had to have more energy than them and that’s why we won the game,” Coach Maxwell said. “Tonight we became district champs.” A few days before on Oct. 18, the Lady Rabbs and longtime rival Queen City had a good battle.
Queen City won the first set 25-19 but Atlanta took the next three by scores of 25-17, 25-15, 26-24.
Coach Maxwell had this to say after the contest. “Of course you know it is a rivalry game. We came out slow but QC came out ready to battle,” Coach Maxwell remarked. “They really played well. They studied us like a book. We lost the first set but battled and won the next three.”
Rylie Pattillo had 21 assists, Annemarie Hanner had 14 assists, Kaylon Partain had 35 digs, six kills and three aces, Carlajah Adger added 12 digs, one kill, one ace and one block, Makaylin King posted two kills, two blocks and seven digs, Kym Sheppard had 12 kills and seven blocks, Amaya Young recorded five kills and two blocks and Sabriiyah Young had five kills.
