Lady Rabbs crowned regional champs, season ends in semifinals

Atlanta’s volleyball team continued its historic run as they beat Harmony in five sets on Nov. 9, in the regional quarterfinals of the state playoffs.

The Lady Rabbits won the first two sets, 25-23, 25-15, but Harmony wouldn’t go quietly as the Lady Eagles won the next two sets, 25-13, 25-21.

The fifth and deciding set was a shootout between the two teams but the Lady Rabbs stood tall and won the set, 15-12.

Destinee Wells six kills, three aces and 17 digs; Kaylon Partain added five kills, one ace, two assists and 25 digs; Amaya Williams put up four kills, three blocks and three digs; Alley Jefferson posted 18 digs and one ace; AnneMarie Hanner had a kill, nine assists and 20 digs; Rylie Pattillo published two aces, 17 digs, two kills and 29 assists; Cara Taylor recorded three digs and one ace; Sabriiyah Young had two digs and eight kills; Kym Sheppard added three digs,18 kills and four blocks; Kinlee Hamilton had three digs, four kills and a block and JaNeisha Fields had two digs and two blocks.

Head Coach Quen Banks had this to say after the big win.

“I am beyond proud of this team,” Coach Banks said. “I love the heart and fight they have.”

Unfortunately the Lady Rabbs’ season came to an end last Friday night against Boyd in the regional semifinals.
