Lady Rabbs crowned bi-district, area champs
Atlanta’s varsity volleyball team is truly the Energizer bunny who keeps going and going and going.
The Lady Rabbits sealed up the school’s first-ever undefeated district title a couple of weeks ago and have two crowns to add to that honor after winning both its bi-district and area matches.
Head Coach Quen Banks had this to say about the undefeated honor.
“It’s amazing to have accomplished because it’s the first time in Atlanta history,” Banks said. “I wouldn’t ask for any other team or assistant. We have a great group of girls.”
Bi-District
On Nov. 1, the Lady Rabbs beat Mineola in four sets to take the bi-district title.
Mineola won the first set 25-18 but the Lady Rabbs took the next three by score of, 25-22, 25-22, 25-21.
Destinee Wells had eight points, 19 digs, three aces and seven kills; Kaylon Partain added six points, 42 digs, three aces and four kills; Amaya Williams posted nine kills, three blocks and four digs; Alley Jefferson recorded six points and 16 digs; AnneMarie Hanner had four points, four digs, one ace and 22 assists; Rylie Pattillo put up 13 points, 13 digs, four aces, one kill and 23 assists; Cara Taylor published 10 points, four digs and one ace; Sabriiyah Young added four digs, six kills and four blocks; Kym Sheppard had four digs, 17 kills and four blocks; Kinlee Hamilton posted three digs and two kills and JaNeisah Fields had three kills and two blocks.
Area
In the area round last Saturday the Lady Rabbs thumped Waskom in three sets by scores of, 25-21, 25-10, 25-17.
Destinee Wells had six points, two aces, five kills and 12 digs; Kaylon Partain, the LIBERO, had 11 kills, two aces, nine points and 33 digs; Amaya Williams finished with five kills, two digs and one block; Alley Jefferson added six points, two aces and 12 digs; AnneMarie Hanner posted three points, four digs and 14 assists; Rylie Pattillo recorded four points, two aces, three digs and 15 assists; Cara Taylor published six points, two aces and four digs; Sabriiyah Young had three kills, two blocks and six digs; Kym Sheppard had 11 kills and two blocks; Kinlee Hamilton added two kills, one block and five digs and JaNeisha Fields had four digs.
The Player of the Week was Kaylon Partain who had 15 kills, five aces and 75 digs in both playoff games.
Leaders of the season so far are: Destinee Wells with 364 digs; Kaylon Partain with 648 digs; Alley Jefferson with 281 digs; Amaya Williams with 81 blocks; Rylie Pattillo with 396 assists; AnneMarie Hanner with 265 assists; Kym Sheppard with 350 kills and 135 blocks and Keymya Smith with 72 blocks.
The Lady Rabbits played Harmony last night in the regional quarterfinals.
